MALANG – A total of 84 students from Widiatmika Middle School participated in an educational field trip to Malang, East Java, from February 25 to 28, 2025. This trip was designed to broaden students' knowledge through direct learning experiences outside the classroom. Over four days, they visited various educational and recreational destinations, including PT Amerta Indah Otsuka, Pura Luhur Giri Arjuno, Batu Night Spectacular (BNS), Jatim Park 1, and Museum Angkut.
The Chairperson of the Widiatmika Middle School Field Trip Committee, I Dewa Agung Made Candrakusuma, emphasized that this program was not merely a recreational journey but an integral part of an experiential learning strategy.
“This field trip is part of the school's program aimed at enriching students' knowledge through real-world experiences. Learning outside the classroom allows students to visit specific sites and gain a deeper understanding through direct interaction,” he stated.
A visit to PT Amerta Indah Otsuka was among the most exciting experiences of the trip. At the company that produces the isotonic drink Pocari Sweat, students observed firsthand how production processes are carried out under strict hygiene standards and modern manufacturing technology. They also gained insights into workplace ethics and the importance of innovation in large-scale production.
At Museum Angkut, students not only enjoyed a collection of historical vehicles from various eras but also witnessed the Man on Fire performance, which combined theatrical arts and special effects. Some students and teachers even had the opportunity to ride vehicles featured in the attraction. Meanwhile, at Jatim Park 1, they explored various interactive exhibits that enhanced their understanding of science and history.
Beyond academic aspects, this field trip also provided students with a spiritual experience. A visit to Pura Luhur Giri Arjuno became a moment of reflection, helping them understand religious values and the local wisdom deeply upheld in the region. Their interaction with the environment and local communities offered new perspectives on how culture and spirituality remain essential parts of everyday life.
According to Candrakusuma, this experience not only expanded students’ knowledge but also helped them understand the connection between science, industry, culture, and spirituality in real life.
“With firsthand experiences like this, students do not just learn theories but also connect them to real-world applications. Contextual learning like this is crucial in building a better understanding and enhancing their enthusiasm for learning,” he added.
This field trip was more than just an educational journey; it also served as a platform to foster camaraderie, curiosity, and character development among students. By combining industrial exploration, history, science, and spirituality, the trip became a holistic and meaningful learning experience.
