A Warm Welcome at Widiatmika High School: MPLS Ends with Jurassic World Movie Day

JIMBARAN - Widiatmika High School recently held its Orientation Week, locally known as Masa Pengenalan Lingkungan Sekolah (MPLS), for new Grade X students in the 2025/2026 academic year. The series of activities started on July 18 with a pre-orientation session, followed by the main program from July 21 to 25. All first-year students participated in this mandatory initiative to support their adjustment to a new learning environment.

“The main goal of MPLS is to help students adapt physically, socially, and academically,” said Putu Mita Wulandani, S.Pd.,Gr., Vice Principal for Public Relations.

She explained that this year’s program focused more on shaping students’ character and motivation in line with the values promoted by Widiatmika High School.

Following the Ministry of Education's directive, this year’s MPLS carried the theme Ramah, meaning “welcoming” in Indonesian. While the general structure remained similar to previous years, the content was delivered in a more mindful and enjoyable way. The goal was to ensure that students not only understood school rules and culture, but also felt included and safe from the beginning.

One of the most impactful sessions focused on bullying prevention. Students learned about different types of bullying, including verbal, physical, social, and cyber forms, along with their psychological impact. The session also introduced the school's reporting mechanism, which protects the identities and wellbeing of those who come forward.

“We want students to feel safe and respected here. There is no tolerance for bullying in this school,” Mita emphasized.

Another key session featured disaster preparedness training from BASARNAS, Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency. Students were taught practical steps to respond to earthquakes, including the essential sequence of Drop, Cover, and Hold On. They also learned the importance of having an emergency kit and taking personal responsibility in crisis situations.

Character development remained a central theme throughout the week. Through the "Seven Habits of Excellent Indonesian Children" program, students explored values such as honesty, discipline, empathy, responsibility, and perseverance. These habits support the school’s mission to nurture both academic achievement and moral integrity.

To wrap up the week, students were invited to watch Jurassic World together at a local cinema in Sidewalk Jimbaran. The relaxed setting helped them unwind, connect, and enjoy time outside the classroom. The story’s spirit of teamwork and adventure reflected the new chapter students are about to begin.

“Simple activities like this show students that school can be both meaningful and enjoyable,” Mita said.

With a combination of thoughtful content, real-life skills, and warm interactions, this year’s MPLS at Widiatmika High School served as more than just an introduction. It became a solid starting point for building confidence, friendship, and a lasting sense of community.
