JIMBARAN – To strengthen friendships, cultivate togetherness, and share the blessings of Ramadan, Widiatmika Elementary School held a communal iftar on Friday, March 14, 2024. This event also aimed to instill values of togetherness and tolerance among students.
“This iftar is based on Islamic teachings that emphasize the importance of maintaining connections and togetherness. Additionally, this event serves as a moment to strengthen bonds and share the blessings of Ramadan. The main goal of this activity is to foster friendship, enhance a sense of unity, and instill religious values, especially during the holy month of Ramadan,” said Imamuddin, the Chairman of the Iftar Committee at Widiatmika Elementary School.
This annual event was attended by all Muslim students of Widiatmika Elementary School, teachers, and several parents. The event began with a welcoming speech from the school principal, I Putu Edi Purwanta, followed by an Islamic sermon (tausiyah), the recitation of salawat, and dhikr. Afterward, participants were served takjil as a pre-meal before performing the Maghrib prayer together and enjoying dinner.
The iftar menu was the result of a collaborative effort between the school and parents, who enthusiastically contributed to the event. A variety of dishes such as kolak, donuts, risol, martabak, pastel, panada, pizza, roti sobek, kue soes, chocolate bananas, and fried bananas were served. An assortment of fruits and beverages, including fruit punch, mixed ice drinks, and mineral water, were also provided to complete the meal. The active participation of parents in preparing the food was a testament to their support and sense of togetherness within the school community.
Imamuddin noted that students were highly enthusiastic about the event. The atmosphere was filled with warmth as students and teachers interacted joyfully, creating meaningful moments of togetherness.
Beyond simply sharing a meal, this iftar event also aimed to instill a strong sense of unity. All participants had an equal opportunity to enjoy the food and the shared experience.
“The plates used were uniform, and every dish available could be enjoyed by all attendees. When it was time to break the fast, everyone was invited to eat together at the same time. We wanted to emphasize the importance of togetherness among all participants,” Imamuddin explained.
He also added that the iftar event served as a platform to strengthen tolerance within the school environment. According to him, religious tolerance means respecting and appreciating differences in beliefs and religious practices. The fasting observed by Muslims can serve as a moment to reinforce values of religious harmony.
“Tolerance is reflected in how Muslims observe fasting without imposing their beliefs on others. Mutual respect and appreciation for differences are key to building harmonious relationships among religious communities. A real example of this tolerance can be seen in various activities that involve both Muslims and non-Muslims, such as this communal iftar,” he concluded.
With the collaboration between the school and parents, the communal iftar at Widiatmika Elementary School became more than just a Ramadan celebration. It became a meaningful occasion to strengthen relationships among students, teachers, and families in a warm and memorable atmosphere.
