JIMBARAN – Widiatmika Kindergarten once again held a cooking class on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, as part of the practical life program aimed at teaching life skills to children from an early age. In this session, students had the opportunity to learn how to make corn fritters with full guidance from their teachers.
Adriani Honi Ano, a teacher at Widiatmika Kindergarten, explained that this activity was designed not only to introduce children to cooking tools and ingredients but also to provide them with hands-on experience in the process.
"With cooking class, children are not just watching; they actively participate. They learn to slice ingredients, mix batter, and even flip the fritters under the teacher's guidance," she said.
The cooking class at Widiatmika Kindergarten always follows the principle of "cooking with happiness" in a safe and enjoyable environment. Before starting, children are given an introduction to the tools and ingredients they will use and are taught the risks and the importance of being careful when handling knives and stoves. With teacher supervision, they gain valuable experience in how to cook safely and effectively.
Beyond developing cooking skills, this activity also benefits children's overall growth. The cooking class helps improve hand-eye coordination, develop fine motor skills, and enhance their ability to collaborate with friends.
"This activity is highly beneficial for training children's soft skills. They learn patience while waiting for their turn and understand the importance of cleanliness, time management, and caution when cooking," Adriani added.
Additionally, the cooking class plays a role in building children's self-confidence. By following the cooking process from start to finish, they take pride in the dishes they create. This is also an important moment for them to realize that cooking is not just for adults but a skill they can master as well.
The cooking class at Widiatmika Kindergarten is a monthly program. Through this activity, children not only gain cooking experience but also develop positive habits that will serve as valuable life lessons. They learn the importance of preparation, time management, and careful execution of tasks.
